Strick Muzik is a label designed for the current state of the recording industry. It is getting easier for artists to record, manufacture, distribute and publicize their own music. As a result, there is a prevailing shift in power from large corporations to the artists.
Strick Muzik will serve as a vehicle for artists to take advantage & become more resourceful from the many changes that the music industry is facing. This is most advantageous for fans because the filter between the fans and the artists, created by the "middle man", is now reducing in size. At Strick Muzik the artist, resulting in "higher purity" of the finished product, will handle most of the many steps in the recording process.
The launch of Strick Muzik will commence in May 2006 with Marcus Strickland's highly awaited Double CD recording "Twi-Life". The name of the record is also "Twi-Life" because it will consist of two bands, each with their own distinct sound and repertoire - like night and day. The first disc will feature the Marcus Strickland Quartet: Marcus Strickland - soprano & tenor saxophones, Robert Glasper - piano, Vicente Archer - bass, E.J. Strickland - drums. The second disc will feature Marcus' new "Twi-Life" Group: Marcus Strickland - ten. sax, Lage Lund - guitar, Brad Jones - electric bass, E.J. Strickland - drums.
The world is buzzing with youthful creativity, and more artists should take control of their situations by becoming more resourceful. Imagine a recording that has every aspect - from the mixing & mastering to the very aesthetics & marketing strategy - decided by the artist through professional guidance, rather than a corporation. The tools necessary to produce, as well as distribute music are becoming more accessible to musicians. Lets say, "Bye-bye," to those recordings that sound and look like they were produced through a stencil.
